Kennel Renovation Project

We are currently raising funds to renovate our old, worn dog kennels. This will not only improve their appearance, but will make them much more sanitary and safe for the dogs.

Every penny counts—please consider making a donation to this project today!

The total cost of the project for all of our dog kennel areas is $65,000.

So far we have resurfaced the floors in our hallway, boarding kennels (inside and out), and the inside of our adoption room. The kennels have been replaced in the boarding room (inside and out) and the inside of our adoption room.

This includes:

  • Resurfacing the floors and coating them with a durable and easily sanitized epoxy
  • Replacing worn & damaged chain link fence panels and doors with easier to clean and sanitize stainless steel and/or high-impact plastic fencing & doors
  • Replacing indoor/outdoor sliding doors with new, insulated doors to provide better climate control for the dogs and reduce energy costs for the shelter as a whole
  • Creating solid barriers between kennels up to the full height of the kennel to reduce the spread of illness and make the kennels easier to keep sanitary
  • Improving the lighting and fixing the non-working ceiling fans to create a more pleasant environment for both the dogs and human visitors
  • Repairing and repainting walls for improved sanitation and lighter, brighter appearance
  • Purchasing durable raised dog beds to make the kennels more comfortable

We are also raising funds to completely replace our cat kennels which are too small or otherwise inappropriate for primary cat housing. We are planning to purchase cat condos and a multi-cat housing unit for a cost of approximately $12000.

Finally, we would like to remodel our socialization room so it can better serve as a play/exercise room for all of our animals. The cost of that is approximately $5000.

THANK YOU to the Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation for issuing a $1000 grant for us to purchase four feed bins to store 270-pounds of food in each!
The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation is committed to making life more bearable for children, families and pets, in need of a helping paw.  With the sale of each full-sized Bearemy’s Kennel Pals® friend — a collection of Build‑A‑Bear Workshop® plush dogs — one dollar is donated to domestic pet programs including local animal shelters, stray pet rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and pet education programs around the country.  These funds are available to qualified non-profit organizations in the United States and Canada.  Visit www.buildabear.com for more information.

These bins help us keep our dogs’ food dry and pest-free.
